I'm a Domestic Rockstar

My boredom hath no bounds. Either that, or I seriously need to start exploring my creative outlets. Here's a look at the conversation that ran through my head tonight:

"I've exhausted the internet. I've exhausted the television. Now what?
Homework?
Nah.
Read?
Nah.
Sleep?
Nahhhhh
Imma sew something!"

So that's exactly what I did. I MADE MYSELF A SKIRT. No, this is not one of my past times. I don't frequently make myself clothing. I don't even know how to use a standard sewing machine. But I was *inspired,* and who am I to turn away a muse? No, I had to make a skirt.

Granted, I have LITERALLY NEVER done this before, so my article of clothing is really nothing other than a tube of fabric with an elastic waistband and a finished hem (aka it's about as advanced as something you might find at AmericanApparel). However,I have never been so proud in my life. I sewed it with my own two hands, sans machine, sans pattern, and sans assistance.

Who made that again? Oh, yeah. I DID.

Oh, and it's plaid. So I may or may not have just reached ultimate hipster status (damnit). On the other hand, I've also gained about a billion domesticity points. This is excellent, considering that as an English major, I will probably never have the money to actually buy my own clothing. Granted, there's a chance that I'll never wear this skirt, considering the fact that it really is...a tube of fabric, but it's important because of what it represents (I'm an English major; leave me alone). It represents that I have the potential to clothe myself if meed be. And that feels awesome.  It's comforting to know that I'll never be forced to run around nakey.

Basking in my glory (check my optical illusion elbow)

Well, this was entirely impulsive. And awesome. In fact, I feel like such a baller that this skirt is coming back to school with me. It's going in my closet where I can see it everyday and remember that one time when I made an article of clothing entirely on a whim. Champ status.

**Note: When deciding to conduct an arts and crafts project while listening to music on your laptop, keep materials far, far away from the computer. Otherwise, you might accidentally knock a container of pins onto the keyboard. You then might spend 10 minutes shaking the aforementioned laptop back and forth and upside down and trying to pick pins out from between the keys. You might even have a mild panic attack, thinking that the pins would puncture all sorts of important wires and mechanisms inside the laptop. Your mind might even be transported back to computer spillage disasters. Wouldn't that be awful...

You Know it's Spring in Lisbon When:

  • The ice on the pond looks unsafe to walk on.
This is when you move to the indoor skating rink.

  • I can walk my dog in shorts and a T-shirt.
If I took Polly Pocket/Happy Princess steroids

  1. I can keep the windows open all day and get rid of that closed-house smell
Better check yo'self...
  • The old men sweep the road sand off of their front lawns with push-brooms.
Damn that grass SPARKLES.
  • The bikers (motorcyclists, not bicyclists) wear leather jackets instead of insulated winter coats.
Okay, it's not quite this intense. Yet.
  • One day of rain turns front yards into lakes.
Granted, the flooding generally lacks African wildlife.
  • Music emanates from the house that's so run down I though it to be abandoned (haunted or newly occupied?).
Bass bumpin' specters. Fantastic
  • The ice has melted off of the street curbs, revealing the many, many liquor bottles (and other miscellaneous articles of trash) that line the road.
This is not proper road-building material. STOP LITTERING.

The birds are chirping (SO EARLY) and the sun is shining (for a day at a time; this is still New England). Soon enough, the buds will flower, grass will turn from yellow to green, and everything will look alive and happy. Except for me. Though I'm named after a springtime month, I have worse allergies than anyone you've met in your life. Pretty much anything green, fresh, or beautiful will turn me into a sneezing, watery, unattractive mess. I go through boxes of tissues like a teenager who just got dumped; the only difference is, this is my entire life (read - my environmentalism takes a serious nosedive (heh, I made a a pun) every spring). Major props to my prescription allergy medication, which I've been taking since the 7th grade. Without it, I am 100% UNABLE TO FUNCTION. Yeah [prescription] drugs!

WELCOME SPRING!
I love hate have mixed feelings about you...

Spring Break Hurts (Literally)

Apparently, this spring break is all about self-inflicted wounds. In the last four days, I have
  1. Scraped up my knuckles until they bled. **Note: I may or may not have cut myself while punching a box-spring.
  2. Sprained my wrist (minimally, but still).
  3. Hit myself in the nose (where I broke it so many years ago) with an iron rod from a table saw.
  4. Contracted several splinters from boxes made of very old wood that's been treated with godknowswhat.
  5. Watched Inception for the first time (aka, put my mind into a blender and pushed the "frappe" button).
Racial band-aids?

I wouldn't suggest engaging in any of these activities. Because they all suck. And what do I have to show for my pains? A scarred left hand and an unsightly discoloration on the bridge of my nose. COOL. Apparently, I'm an extremely successful spring-breaker. Not.

Oh, and the weather has been looking something like this:
Awesome.

That is to say, grey and miserable. Which just psychologically painful. Spring break is supposed to be about beaches and sand and tans and warm weather. It is not supposed to be all about grey skies, uncomfortably chilly temperatures, and frigid precipitation. But wait, here's tomorrow's forecast:

Dear Mother Nature,
I just want to go outside without a coat, kay? I want the sky to not look like it's trapping me in a steel case (of emotion). My daffodils are not happy. The crocuses have croaked, but they refuse to bloom. I cannot take Vitamin D pills forever. I WANT SUN.

Self reflection: My mind hurts and my body hurts. I want to curl up under a blanket and watch hours and hours of television. I need Reeses cups to soothe my woes.

Or this. This could perhaps be the most welcoming sight on planet Earth.
